Customer Rating: Summary: A must read for anyone who speaks for a living Comment: I picked this up as an easy summer read and could not put it down. Then I bought copies for all my staff that manage the relationships with our National accounts.
Customer Rating: Summary: Item Never Received Comment: I'm sure the book is wonderful. In fact, I ordered to use for a class I was teaching on presentation skills. Unfortunately, I have never received the order and the seller has not responded to any of my emails requesting information about the shipment. According to the order, it was to be delivered sometime during the week of August 10 at the latest. The seller was Karins04, so beware.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fascinating Communication Strategy Comment: The strategy discussed in this book can be helpful in many situations, including those requiring answers to tough questions. The book relies on examples taken from political debates and then loosely ties the lessons to business settings. There is no political slant for the examples (A bad example from George H. Bush and good example from George W. Bush). I would have preferred business examples rather than political ones; however, I realize the non-disclosure agreements and confidentiality may create roadblocks. The examples make the lessons perfectly clear. This is an insightful and well-written book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Comment: This book is outstanding and is a "must-read" for anyone undergoing tough questioning. Elegantly and simply written, it uses examples from Presidential debates to illustrate a strategy to handle any question. One of the most practical books I have ever read.
Customer Rating: Summary: Delivers as advertised... Comment: Far too often I have picked up a self-help book and either set it down unread because it was pure drudgery - - or I read it to conclusion to learn that it failed to deliver the self-help mechanics that I was looking for. This book delivered. It was a quick and entertaining read and provided straightforward techniques for dealing with tough questions in a debate, a business presentation or public Q&A. Author uses many political debate anecdotes yet they are all powerful in illustrating his concepts. I was left with an excellent understanding of his recommended mechanics in dealing with tough questions. I felt that the book delivered. The chapters included:
1) The Critical Dynamics of Q&A
2) Effective Management Implemented
3) You're Not Listening
4) Active Listening (Concentration)
5) Re-Take the Floor (Self-Defense)
6) Provide the Answer (Balance)
7) Topspin in Action (Agility)
8) Preparation (Discipline)
9) The Art of War (Self-Control; Agility vs. Force)
