Summary: Great Book for the Unenlightened
Comment: When I purchased this book, I didn't know a thing about Fireworks. I spent a few days digesting the material and I was off and running. I considered this book to be worth much more than the $$$ I paid. It taught me just what I needed to know to develop a strong "comfort zone" and begin producing quality web AND print graphics.

Comment: This book is just what it claims to be, a quickstart guide. I have always found the VQS series to be very useful and economical, however they are really more reference books than instructional. I keep them sitting next to my mac for all those times I need to check up on a feature or remind myself of a key command. The Fireworks VQS fits right in. To the learn the program from scratch, look elsewhere.

Summary: not enough
Comment: I've used the visual quickstart guides numerous times and have been very satisfied with them. This edition for Fireworks however, does not provide enough information. I appreciate not having to wade through lengthy discussions, but I do need enough to understand how to use the software, and this book does not provide it. I plan on returning mine, and spending a bit more money so that I can actually get something done with less time spent on trial and error of my own devising.

Summary: A Macintosh-Oriented How-To
Comment: This book is basically what it claims to be: a visual quickstart guide. It is not a tutorial - it has very little textual discussion, outside of "Tips". Its format uses discrete and insular examples to illustrate how to accomplish each task. Although Windows keyboard commands are provided, there are no - absolutely zero - Windows screen shots. It appears to be geared toward the individual who is already familiar with graphics design and who just needs a primer on how to do it with Fireworks. And I think this book will help that person. However, if you're a graphics neophyte just looking to create some web graphics with Fireworks, I don't think this book will help you. And I don't really think Fireworks will help you, unless you're willing to spend a lot of time mastering its capabilities.
