Customer Rating: Summary: Better than I expected Comment: As a veteran programmer for thirty-five years I thought this textbook would be easy for the summer-semester course I just took. The book is very detailed and the course wasn't easy. I've used the Internet for at least ten years and Usenet before that. This book was chock full of Internet stuff I didn't know!
My recommendation: As you come to it, add every website in the book and on the companion web site at Course Technology to your Favorites or Bookmarks; then you'll have them and you can organize them later. There's too much to remember and going back to look for them will be a chore. Many of these sites will become useful tools for using the Internet in ways you haven't before.
The only thing I don't care for in these Course Technology texts is the way they invent for each chapter a fictitious company or person that you're supposedly having a conversation with and doing research for. I guess that makes it more readable. And I pretty much skipped over the yellow highlighted parts where they are tediously stepping you through hands-on tutorials.
Customer Rating: Summary: Informative Comment: This book was required for a class I took in Web Development. Along with the website, it was a great reference. If you think you know alot about the web, wait till you read this textbook. It helped me alot by showing me a wealth of info on the web I didn't know was there. If you like to do research, this book will show you a bunch of search engines and directories you probably have never used and some that are still there like alta vista. I haven't used it for years. I am so used to using Google I have missed out on a bunch of other sources for research.
