Hi! Today we will be learning some neat tricks with one of the most useful effects in
Photoshop- The Lighting Effects:
1.Before proceeding to the first step as always i recommend making the tutorial on
a separate file and after perfecting it, applying it on projects. So the for the first step
make a new file, for example 400x400 pixels. On a new layer create a form similar to mine:
You may choose the form as you wish i only set that for the tutorial. Just do not make
it simple, add a circle, some polygons and use the Lasso Tool. Fill it with Dark Blue from
the color presets palette. Ok, i think you wont have problems with the form.
2.Now hold Ctrl and select the layer of the form, so we can have the form selection. Now
go to the Channels palette and create a new channel. Fill the selection with white. Here comes
the tricky part: without deselecting the Alpha channel go to Filter->Gaussain Blur and apply it
several times. Use this settings:
--------
You may save this as an action by going to the Actions tab and choosing Begin Recording.
Make those steps and after finishing hit Stop.
----------
1st step - 18 pixels radius.
2nd step - 9 pixel radius.
3rd step - 6 pixel radius.
4th step - 3 pixels.
5th step - 1.
--------
When using it in other projects use it like this:
For large images you must apply the blur from the first step,
on smaller images start the sequence from 9 (step 2).
--------
3.Now return to layers palette and go to Filter->Render->Lighting Effects. Apply those settings:
The color I used for the Light Style is #EEFEFF and for the Properties of the filter is #81A9FF.
4. Now the image is cute but rough. Ctrl select the layer with the form and Gaussain Blur it
with 3 px radius. Now you should get a very neat form, something like mine here:
Well you may get some size problems with the saving. My form is not very good for using on
interface but I will give you some advises on how to make a cool interface with this image in
my next tutorial.
Ok, c ya soon!
