Customer Rating: Summary: Start your studies with this Comment: A good book for web design beginners who are just starting their studies or careers in the industry. Someone with a lot of UI design and usability experience won't probably get anything new out of this one (except some perspective I guess).
The book is covering only the basics and is very light on content. On the other hand once you've got those basic design principles you are ready to go. The book is also very fast and fun to read and the author definitely has his own humorous style of writing. I hope we'll see more web design books like this one in the future. Books that are easy to digest between more serious reading.
Other related suggested reading could be the Designing the Obvious: A Common Sense Approach to Web Application Design by Robert Hoekman Jr. which is a bit more serious title but definitely good reading too.
Customer Rating: Summary: Superb Exemplar of Technical Communication Comment: This is the best book for beginners in user interface design; managers who don't understand usability and those who appreciate a superb exemplar of persuasive, informative, even entertaining technical communication. He addresses design principles that apply not only to web design, but also to all visual communications and interaction design. The usability of his presentation is so good; it should be an example in every communications design class.
Customer Rating: Summary: Krug book Comment: I think this is a great book. It uses common sense terms and it is easy to understand. I would recommend it to anyone.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great book for beginners and good review for experienced web designers! Comment: I am new to web page design. Krug's book is succinct and humorous. He holds to his goal of being readable in a long plane trip!
Customer Rating: Summary: Must have book for anyone Comment: I bought this book along with a few others, and I have to say, this is one book I can't put down! Literally I have it with me when I'm going around to see clients, in the car for a quick read, or to illustrate things to people.
I have some clients I work with closesly who I have been trying to teach these underlying concepts to for quite a while, but I've now bought them a copy of this book to read, because it's short, concise, excellent information, and well illustrated.
I'm a web designer, and this has affected how I design/code things in a huge way. I think about things like "I shouldn't just name that button Salons, because we can't have people even second think what it could mean for a split second", and therefore choose to name it something self-explanatory like 'Find a salon' etc.
Couldn't recommend this book highly enough.
