Customer Rating: Summary: ... If you like the "for Dummies" series, you'll love this! Comment: As a professor using this book in a Human Computer Interface Design course, this book is a great primer for getting students to do some basic thinking about user behaviors, and appropriate design solutions. It contains easy-to-understand explanations and examples with images and diagrams that make reading it simple and enjoyable. I found that it does communicate some things I found difficult to put into words - things we take for granted that people are not aware of...
If I were only teaching basic todo's I would use this as my only text, however I do supplement it with some info. architecture materials. It does worry me that people do not realize some of the basic concepts introduced in the book, but that seems to be the nature of web designers - since anyone can really stick up a site online now. If you are a web design professional, I would hope you would opt for a book that inspires some 'higher-level thinking' or more conceptual 'bigger-picture' case studies. But if you consider yourself oblivious to what is going on inside a user's head when they're using a site, I suggest either giving up web design or purchase this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Clear and concise Comment: A clean clear and concise overview of the do's and don't of web design, with the viewer in mind.
Contains helpful advice for the designer, plus a nifty way of keeping UI testing costs under control.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Must for Marketers, Web Developers and site owners Comment: I would recommend this book to anyone who has anything to do with web development and marketing. Its main focus is on simple thing that makes up 70% of website usability.
You'll learn a little about human interaction with web sites, usability testing and design do's and don'ts. Don't think that you'll become a "Marketing Pro" if you read this book, BUT it will definitely help you create a site that brings results and not just a nice picture.
This was a very easy and a quick read. Bottom line is, read this book to become better at what you do if it is in anyway connected to website development, online marketing, advertising or usability.
Customer Rating: Summary: A must buy Comment: I recently finished reading this book and I must say it is excellent. Steve Krug has done an excellent job in explaining everything you need to know about web usability. It is very well written and is easy to read. He does a really good job in making it not only very informational, but also fun and to the point. I recommend everyone who is in web development or thinking about designing webpages to buy this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: SOLID PRINCIPLES Comment: As an instructor of website design, I have decided to include this book as part of our course. It may touch on topics of design that seem 'common sense' but I have found that time and time again, many students of design fail to 'instinctively' build them into their design without first being reminded in a more formal way. Krug has a great writing style that covers a variety of design topics in an amusing and informative way.
