Customer Rating: Summary: Usability that makes sense Comment: This is a thin book, folks! But it's packed with tons of useful info and hints: Improve the homepage, navigation (main, secondary, other levels), "I'm here" signs (breadcrumbs, page titles, site IDs), page noise reduction, page scannability, and more. All this information is scattered on the web, but the author has done well by putting them together and presenting them in a way that makes sense.
Mr. Krug does a good job of explaining how you can better your website by using common sense web usability. The author is also not afraid to share too much of his knowledge with you, which makes for enlightening and pleasant reading. Open the book at any chapter, dive in, and learn; that's the sign of a good book.
What this book is not: If you are new to website developing and need knowledge of HTML, CSS, and other web standards, do not buy this book. This book is for those who have already designed or built one or several websites, and are looking for ways to better the web experience of their visitors, and make (more) sales in the process. However, you could consider buying this book if you wanted to design websites `the usable way' right from the start, thereby avoiding going through several redesigns later on.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wow!!! Comment: Never have I read a more succinct, incredibly helpful book on this topic! And he keeps it brief and fun to read. I am recommending it to everyone I know who has anything to do with web sites. The value for the money spent can't even be measured, it is so great!
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent for the Novice and the Expert Comment: This is one book that crosses both lines into the Novice arena and the expert arena. I stongly recommend that thsi be one of the books on your shelf for your web site.
Customer Rating: Summary: changed my view of web design Comment: This book made me realize the real reason why we are designing websites - for the user. This book made me realize that users will stay on the site for much longer if they can easily navigate it. It focuses on designing how the user would expect you to design (but of course, you can still be creative). And it helps you to put yourself in the user's shoes. It totally changed the way I see web design (in a very good way!). I recommend it to any web designer!
Customer Rating: Summary: Required Reading Comment: This book should be required reading for not only web designers, but anyone who owns a website. The book was a bit on the thin side and when I got it I thought it should have been thicker for the money. I was wrong. This book takes you through every facet of usability and is as applicable to a single person with one site as it is to a multi-level corporation who owns 30 sites. His writing style is fun and humorous and the book is an easy read.
