Customer Rating: Summary: Great book , especially at amazon's price Comment: This is a very good book, especially if you are in the "sophomore" stage of photography (no longer a newbie, but far from being a pro). It's breezily written, and has useful easy-to-read tips on almost every page. The writing is VERY approachable, and the author does a good job explaining difficult technical concepts to the reader.
I do agree, however, that the author's jokes wore thin after the first fifteen pages or so. I also think the book is a little slim. Still, I'd happily recommend it.
Customer Rating: Summary: Digital Photography: straight talk about a complicated subject Comment: This book takes the practical approach of giving specific instructions and camera settings to achieve specific photo results. It's like having a mentor along with you as you venture into digital camera usage. The author also uses a humorous style to deliver the technical advice, adding to the book's 'readability'.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best Book to get started in Photography Comment: Easy to read and very concise. Not bogged down with a lot of technical info that most people could care less about. Rather, the book offers recipes on how to achieve a certain shot. Also some basic concepts and equipment you need and why. Some of the humor in the book was very funny and much of it fell flat, but over all made the book that much better to read. This book is perfect for the new photographer looking to improve the quality of the photos. I can not recommend this book enough to casual photographers looking to greatly improve how they take photos.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent Book!! Comment: This is the best photography book that I have ever bought. Cuts through the BS and just gives you the facts on how to take great pictures!
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Book Overall Comment: I really enjoyed this book. I am a fan of Scott Kelby books, especially the "Killer Tips" series. I highly recommend them for any Photoshop and Illustrator users. This book is in the same kind of format, and is clear and concise. Yes, his humor is a little silly, but after the first chapter it's only the first page of each section. Some reviewers made it sound like that was the entire book, and that is just not the case. I would not recommend this book for advanced users though. It's a great jumping off point for beginners because it gives some general guidelines and settings for several photo situations. It is easier to know what buttons to push to get a great photo, then learn why those settings work. And this book will help you do that.
