Customer Rating: Summary: Photoshop CS2 made useful to the non-expert Comment: Kelby makes available to the budding amateur photographer many of the powerful CS2 techniques that can turn mediocre-to-poor photos into great photos.
Instead of trying to explain the chapter and verse of Photoshop CS2, Kelby describes the specific methods, literally step-by-step, for handling the typical common situations and problems. It is a kind of very effective bottoms-up approach to Photoshop. While the reader may not understand all of the theory of layers and the myriad adjustments described in the book, the methods work and work well. This methodology is also effective, I believe, in providing the necessary incentive to the reader to really learn what layers really do, for example, and how and why they are used.
I have found the book useful in my own quite amateur work, and continue to learn more from it as time goes by.
Customer Rating: Summary: A Great Book for Budding Photographers Comment: Scott Kelby writes this book with a wonderful sense of humor and he makes the photography concepts he is explaining very easy to understand. Instead of just writing out a lecture on photography concepts, he tells the reader what exactly they need to do in order to take certain kinds of pictures. He covers many kinds of photography, such as nature, travel/urban, sports, weddings, and portraits. He provides some great tips on how best to compose your shots so that they turn out really well. I have taken his book out shooting with me and have used it as a reference guide for when I know I want to take a certain type of shot. It works out great! This is definitely the perfect book for anyone who is interested in photography and wants an easy way to get better and taking pictures.
