Summary: Quick Way to Get your Own Website up and running
Comment: I was happy to see that this visual book only had 130 pages. I just need to get my website up and running. I don't need to know all the details about Dreamweaver. This book did for me in a day. I didn't download their website examples, but worked directly on my own site. This does require you to extrapolate a bit, but that's how you will learn to do it your self. This book is organized around what the user wants to do. It doesn't step you through all the menus like most books. That great, because that's the way it works in real life.

Summary: Cannot recommend - fatal flaw - downloadable web companion example files do not match book
Comment: This book is geared for people new to Dreamweaver CS3 and CSS. It is a very attractive book. I wanted to love this book - it's cute - gorgeous - colorful - pleasantly laid out - big screenshots - heavy typefaces. It really-and-truly is a book for dummies like me. However, the book has one fatal flaw, big enough such that I cannot recommend the book. The flaw is that the downloadable Internet companion "example" files at waywest dot net/dwvqj do *NOT* match the book in multiple places. In my opinion, the web companion examples files are crucial to the success of the book. I emailed the author Nolan Hester a few days ago but haven't heard back. With the companion files UNmatching, it makes no sense investing in the book. By "insert flash video" on page 29, I could no longer follow along because the differences were so great. I then rifled through the rest of the book and found additional major places where the web examples files do not match the book.

If the publisher and/or author would make the necessary changes to the web companion example files so they match the book, this *COULD* be a superb idiot's "first" book. I advise NOT purchasing this book UNTIL the author and/or publisher explicitly posts a note in plain view stating that the web companion example files REALLY DO ACTUALLY match the book!

I wasted my money. After posting this review, I am shelving the book and moving on to other books on DW CS3, XHTML, CSS, etc.

I've been a fan of the publisher Peachpit Press peachpit dot com for decades. They evidently are not paying attention to detail regarding this book.
