Summary: Good reading material in preparation for the exam
Comment: Good reading, but the practice questions could be better. Also leaves out a few categories that I had to brush up on from other sources, but that's to be expected with just about any single book.

*******review update******* This product is outdated since the exam was updated in 2007 and this book is based on the 2005 exam

Summary: Excellent Book
Comment: This is an excellent book as all the others from Sybex. I haven't take the exam yet, but after finishing this book, I bet I'll pass with no problem!

Summary: From someone in the business
Comment: Great Book. Freshly written in a non-literary style filled with dry humor and experience. The information in the text is top notch. Some of the drawings are so simplistic, I had to keep a perspective this is the first time many readers are exposed to the concepts. Still, they are however, mundane and canned. That doesn't take points away. Just keep your sense of humor and it actually increases the enjoyment of reading the material. The authors read like good stand-ins for "NicK Burns" of Saturday Night Live, which I love. We all are inherently stupid at various points of our day and it's great fun to point at the fact without being cruel.
Contraversely, this is not a "chick" book and that fact should be considered by women and some men who prefer the writing style of female authors.
One note about the style in the material, being that the information is virtually flawless; the authors have placed bombs of joy or bombs of frustration, depending upon your mood, by using words like "Clandestinely" and referring to hackers as "Miscreants". You get the feeling that when not riding their skateboards, the authors are under a tree reading Dean Koontz.
If you miss the "keep your sense of humor" style in the writing, you're probably going to miss a few points on the Exam for being so uptight. So, loosen up and enjoy the book. It's well written.
The part I yearned for, because it is desperately needed, was a "Top Ten troubleshooting". Why is it not there? It's like dating. Most people who are eager don't do it well and those you'd love to see do it, don't.

Summary: Comprehensive, accurate reference - gets the job done!
Comment: I found this textbook to be comprehensive and accurate in the information it conveys. It was relatively easy to read and put forth the material in such a manner as not to bore one to death!

I passed the exam with an 803 and even saw two questions that were word-for-word out of this text. I highly recommend this textbook as the predominant reference, along with another cross-reference just for completeness.

Summary: Excellent study guide, accurate sample questions
Comment: This is an excellent study guide for the Security+ exam. The sample questions on the CD are almost exactly what is on the real exam, in fact I actually found one question that was identical verbatim to what was on the CD. I think going through the chapter exams and reading on the subjects you miss questions on is the best way to study for the Security+ which is a fairly tough exam. This is the only resource I used and I got an 885/900. You will not be disappointed with this book and especially not with the CD which is worth the price by itself thanks to its excellent sample tests.
