Customer Rating: Summary: Great for amateurs and professionals as well. Comment: I have never purchased any book on SEO before as I assumed the content would be too dated.
Jennifer and Gradiva take a holistic approach to SEO which is most practical and realistic. Combined with the companion web site and materials contained there, I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to get real results from their SEO Marketing efforts.
Customer Rating: Summary: You Could Hire a Consultant Comment: It used to be that working with the search engines was so simple. You put up information about your site in META tags. You went to Google, Yahoo and a few others and entered your domain name as a place for them to come visit. They would visit, and you would be listed.
Since then things have changed. It doesn't seem that the search engines are paying much attention to the META tags any more. But they are looking at things like the directory name where the home page is located, and the file name of the home page.
This book lays out a plan of spending one hour a day in attracting visitors to your page through the search engines. If that's too much time, perhaps you can do it in spurts. Spend some time not reading the book and putting the most important parts into practice. Then to the remainder as you have time.
If you don't want people to visit your site (you're running an internal training site for instance) don't bother. But if you are like the rest of us, here are a lot of good hints and tips.
There are a lot of SEO consultants out there. The price of this book will equal about 10 or 15 minutes of their time. But afterwards, you will understand your site better and you can do as good a job as they can.
Customer Rating: Summary: Definitely worth your time and money Comment: I run my family's manufacturing business in Illinois and am not an SEO professional. I am, however, very interested in growing our business through web marketing (SEO and SEM). That makes me, I believe, exactly the sort of reader the authors intended to reach with their book.
SEO: An Hour A Day is well organized, consistent in thought and style and filled with great information. In some cases they confirmed information I had read elsewhere (which can be very helpful in itself) ... and in other cases taught me new things I did not know. The authors do a great job of making the subject fun and interesting. My sincere belief is that any business owner (large or small) who is interested in growing their business using the power of the internet should read this book. In fact, this is a great first book to pick up because it starts at the beginning and builds from there. It is also a great starter because the authors are gracious enough to direct you to additional sources they consider to be authoritative.
As an added bonus, I went to the authors' website and asked a question ... and received a great personal reply the next day. It is obvious to me the authors not only know their subject and have a real interest in it, but also enjoy sharing that knowledge with others.
Long story short: You would be wise to spend the time and money on the book ... I think you will find it is worth the investment.

P.S. The only reason I gave the book 4 of 5 stars and not 5 of 5 is I am reluctant to give anything a perfect score. I never received any perfects in school and now I'm taking it out on them ;)
Customer Rating: Summary: current, practical and very useful Comment: Well written and practical book on the importance of SEO for the partime webmaster and/or functional management in a large organization. Although my interest was from the point of view of a small store owner and website manager, I thought the authors did a very good job explaining the importance of getting company-wide input/support for implementing SEO strategies.
Customer Rating: Summary: GOOD SOLID BOOK, WRITTEN VERY EFFECTIVELY Comment: Hello,
This book, gives you just the information that you are looking for if you want to develop a good knowledge of the SEO market. If you ever don't understand the book, it's as easy as an email to the authors...I had a question and they responded within 24 hours.
If you read the one review with one star by P. Scalice (New York NY), just ignore it. If your going to write a scathing review at least take the time to write more than 2 lines. If you read this book and find nothing useful maybe you shouldn't be doing this SEO stuff. Everything in the book is relevant to making an effective SEO campaign work. To actually say that you can learn what's in the book (a little over 300 pages) in a 30 minute seminar is a complete joke. If you can find a 30 minute seminar program that teaches legitimate SEO strategies in detail like the book that work, please let us all know P.Scalice.
If your willing to put in the time, expect a solid understanding of SEO after reading this book. Not all website projects are the same, but everybody can get something of value from this book.
