Customer Rating: Summary: Thank you Peter Kent Comment: Thanks for being so very helpful. I want to set up an e-business in Spain and this book has given me loads of very good ideas. It also took away many doubts I had. I have read some books on the subject but this is really the best. Also Peter has a good sense of humour, which takes away some of the frustration of the dummy! I think it would be a good idea to have the book translated into Spanish (and I would love to use articles of Peter in my web content and e-marketing strategy).
Customer Rating: Summary: Learning the basics easily Comment: As the name suggests this really is a book for dummies. But you don't have to feel bad about not knowing anything on this subject. In an ever rapidly changing world of Search Engine Optimisation, this book will get you up to speed very quickly. Although the various search engine algorithms have probably changed since this book was printed, if you follow the easy to understand steps you will be absolutely doing the right thing.
The most important piece of advice in this book is, after you have implemented all the tips, be patient! It takes time to make an impact on the organic SEO circuit! - Again, a great book, but you must have patience.
Customer Rating: Summary: Another Terrific Primer from the Dummies Series Comment: I've been a web designer for a long time and until recently had only employed what I picked up peripherally about search engine optimization. I was lucky enough to always have had my sites indexed but most of them never ranked terribly high, and none of my clients expressed any specific interest or were willing to pay for seo services, until recently.
So, having enjoyed other books in the Dummies series, I bought Search Engine Optimization for Dummies and have found it quite fascinating. Having a strong command of many facets of web development, I began tweaking a client's site as I read along. and in literally less than a week, his search position moved from who-knows-where up to the #5 spot on Google for the keywords he was most interested in. Maybe the speed of that result was atypical, but regardless of how long it takes to kick in, as long as you're smart about it and don't go too crazy, I'd say you are very likely to learn a lot about this mysterious art and improve traffic for your clients with the knowledge gained in this book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very practical advice Comment: The advice contained in this book is very practical and straight forward. You can do a number of the things suggested as you read along. The things that I really appreciate about this book are:
1) The pointers to free tools. The time savings from using these links was tremendous.
2) The book doesn't go out of date. The online updates available on the authors web-site keep you up to date with the latest tips. It is also interesting how some of the predictions made in the book have come to pass.
The only complaint I have is that Peter Kent changed his web-site from the one referred to in the book. Not hard to track down his new one but here it is for reference:
http://www.ichannelservices.com/
This minor complaint does not move this book out of the 5-star category for me. Further, I expect to buy his PPC for Dummies book shortly!
Customer Rating: Summary: A Great Book For Dummies & Not Dummies Alike! Comment: Peter Kent's "Search Engine Optimization For Dummies" takes a rather in depth look at how search engines work and how to best optimize websites to be sure to take full advantage of natural & paid search engine placement. The book focuses more on natural search engine placement and gives full strategies regarding keyword analysis, site structure, pagerank, link building & more. Included in the text is a brief explanation of Pay Per Click marketing as well as Pay Per Inclusion search engines. The book also includes tons of useful websites that explain certain issues further and links to free applications to help in the time consuming task of search engine optimization. Although I loved the book one irritating thing about it is that the author keeps pushing his website "search engine bulletin" but when you go to the website the domain has expired. I would assume that a marketing expert wouldnt allow this to happen but we all know where assuming gets you.
I consider myself to have intermediate knowledge of search engine optimization and online marketing and even though this was a "For Dummies" book I did learn a lot. Peter Kent has a good way of explaining things that keeps the read interesting and informative. If you want to learn more on this topic I highly suggest buying this book.
