Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent intro to Perl!! Comment: I used to think that Perl is meant for the "elite ones" only and stick to the notion of "write-only" language. However, this book changed my mind completely. It makes Perl very much more approachable, and even makes learning Perl fun and enjoyable. Go for it!
Customer Rating: Summary: This book defines Beginner's Guide Comment: This book is the ultimate Beginner's Guide to Perl. It gives you everything you need to get started and excludes everything else that could get you confused. I took off 1 star as well because I agree that it is not a good reference.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent for a person who knows nothing about Perl Comment: I am a college student and know C and uses Unix. I have tried to teach myself Perl using Perl for Dummies but the Llama book is much better. I was able to teach myself Perl over the weekend because this book is so clear and precise. I am now moving on to Programming Perl, Advanced Perl Programming, and the Perl Cookbook and only started on Friday and today is Monday. Excellent book.
Customer Rating: Summary: Excellent guide for beginners Comment: This book was an indispensable guide for me when I was learning Perl. Now that I know more about the language and am writing more advanced programs, I've definitely outgrown it. Still, I don't regret one penny I spent on it. It's an excellent, gentle introduction to Perl. I'd definitely recommend it to any Perl beginner. (BTW, this refers to the first edition.)
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Beginner Book! Comment: Definitely the book to get if you want to start learning Perl! Once you've finished the lessons though, not much of a good reference, which is why it lost a star with me!
