Summary: Outstanding!
Comment: This is a great book to teach yourself HTML, XHTML and CSS. I bought it because I was taking a web design class in a distance learning program and didn't think the instructor was providing the best of materials.
I was really impressed by this book's approach. Not many computer books start with a discussion of metacognition and how we think and learn, but this series does, and their approach really works.
I was able to incorporate some of the stylistic elements that are demonstrated in this book into my final project. Going in, I knew nothing about any of it--HTML, XHTML, CSS--but I earned an A in my class! Way to go, HeadFirst!

Summary: I'm hooked on web programming now.
Comment: This was my first foray into web programming, and this book has me hooked. I have read books on VBA, VBScript, Java, JavaScript, and C#, and have enjoyed many of them. Never though has a programming book been so engrossing, so exciting, and so effective in communicating the core ideas involved.

Some may find the book a little too "hip" and silly... I often feel a little embarrassed to have other people see me reading it, as it just doesn't seem quite "serious" enough. But in the end, no other programming book has done a better job for me.

Summary: Highly recomended
Comment: I read the book from cover to cover (all 650 pages) in less than a week, and it really got me up to speed on CSS (which is what I was most interested in). It was so good that I bought another copy for one of my coworkers and another for my son (I wasn't about to give away mine).

Summary: Terrific book
Comment: I have had a website for a couple of years and use Dreamweaver to maintain the site. I initially used a "Dummies" book to learn how to set things up, but I didn't have the control and sophistication that I wanted. This book took me to the next level. The Head First approach really is a good one and the material is easily understood and retained. HTML and CSS go hand in glove - it's not hard when explained well.

Summary: A very well written book but MAC based? Come on...
Comment: So far I am about a third of the way through this book and can say that it is definitely a well written book.

Why 4 Stars then? All of the examples are MAC based. It may not sound like much but when you are still in the first chapter and the little bit of CSS code they give you does not show up properly, and immediately gives you a headache trying to figure out why it's not, then you will know what I am talking about. Yes I tried the code in Firefox (Linux) and IE (M$) with the same results. It works only in the mac browser.

Then in chapter 5 it goes into image editing and expects you to download and install "Photoshop Elements" to complete the chapter. If they had written this book based on the most prolific OS they could have used the free image editing tool included with it. While not as great as MAC imaging it would have been fine for what this chapter taught.

Overall it's a 4 Star book that would have been 5 Stars if written from a PC perspective. You know... the OS that's on 95% of all desktops in the world? It might not be the best OS (Go Linux!) but it would have lessened the number of headaches.
