Customer Rating: Summary: Great place to start learning XHTML & CSS Comment: I read this book cover to cover in a few weeks and can't believe how much I got out of it. The educational approaches the authors take really helped me absorb the content. I am very happy with this book and feel like I got more than my money's worth.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wow. What an interesting, gripping read... Comment: I am a big fan of Kathy Sierra's "Creating Passionate Users" Blog but never had an opportunity or context in which I could engage with Headrush.
But I am really into the Net and when I saw this book, I figured I'd give it a look through to understand more about web design.
This book KICKS BU**!! I have never had such a great time going through a book and no book has kept me so engaged with exercises , humor (yes, humor in a tech book) and crossword puzzles (you'll have to see it to believe it). So much so that I finished the entire book, all its exercises and quizzes and am actually looking forward to doing some web designs of my own.
Plus, I am looking forward to their PHP book. I already bought their Ajax book to keep me company for the next week. Jeez... I think they got me hooked.
Customer Rating: Summary: Best Book on HTML and CSS Comment: I first learned HTML several years ago but needed to update my skills to incorporate CSS. I have read several books on the subject - most of which gave me a headache within the first few pages! This book breaks it all down into easy-to-understand steps. They offer several different ways of learning the same material so that it actually sticks with you and provide exercises to help you master your skills. By the time you finish this book, you will feel confident in your abilities as a web designer. It is designed both for beginners to web design as well as for those, like myself, who need to update their skills. I think it could also be used very well in a classroom format.
Customer Rating: Summary: A great book for learning HTML and XHTML Comment: Prior to buying this book, I took a course in HTML and XHTML. When I finished the book that was uised in that course, I didn't feel that I really knew what I was doing. I heard about this book from another student and I read some reviews. It is a great book to learn HTML and XHTML. It is easy to follow. It has humor, that makes it fun to learn. It explains in detail some of the complicated features, that were passed over in the other book. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn HTML ansd XHTML.
Customer Rating: Summary: Head First HTML rocks! Comment: I absolutely love the teaching style of O'Reilly's Head First Series. I had such an excellent experience with the Head First Java, I decicided to buy the HTML book to brush up on my knowledge of HTML.
I thought I was relatively competent in my knowledge of HTML, but once you read this book you suddenly realise there are much easier and elegant solutions to designing pages for the web.
This book takes standards seriously, and teaches you to build highly accessible and robust pages in a VERY easy to learn manor. The book is fun to read, and it makes the process active by making you think around problems, puzzles and activities.
They have also done extremely well in anticipating what I may be thinking at a particular point in the text with the "There are No Dumb Questions.." sections. They seemed to answer all my queries and pointed me in the right direction at the right time.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to dabble in web page design at some point in time (and who doesn't?)
