Summary: Great Intro to HTML, CSS, and XHTML
Comment: This is a excellent book for anyone who haven't used HTML, CSS, and XHTML. The examples and the work assignments really clarified how everything worked together. The humor in the book really helps get into the "meat" of the subject area.

I kind of wished that the book cover a bit more materials like scroll bars, frames, multimedia & flash, etc... If they did, the book would have weighted 20 pounds. At least, the book got me started on the correct foundation before starting using tools like Dreamweaver.

I have found a couple of places where the source code was not available from their website but I was able to work around it.

Great book. I forward in reviewing their other "Headfirst" books.

Summary: Best Entry Level Guide Ever
Comment: The book explains things in a comprehensive structured method while exaples are based around the creation of a Coffee Shop promotional site. It starts with basic document structure and then adds presentation/style with the use of CSS. File management tips and practices are also layed out. If you are starting from scratch and don't mind a playful text with quizes and puzzles at the end of each chapter pick this book up now. If you are just looking for a reference book there are titles better suited but for learning the basics this can't be beat.

I can't wait for the MySQL and PHP title from this talented team.

Summary: Learn HTML $ CSS in a week, strange but true.
Comment: You want a lecturer to sit next to you and teach you HTML @ CSS?
This book is just that. I have bought training cd's on this subject and compared to this book they are absolute rubbish.
The whole essence of this book is the transfer of knowledge.
You can go from nothing to a very competent web designer in a few days, this is the cheapest most effective training I have ever had.
You have to read the book from beginning to end, it is not a reference manual. It is 650 pages but it reads quick, lots of graphics, you can easily do 100 pages a day.

Summary: Good web design book and a great way to learn!
Comment: This is the first Head First book I've worked with and I have to say that I'm impressed with how it streamlines the learning process. I learned a little about web design in college and from an out dated how-to book from the library, but this book was able to fill in the gaps in my knowledge with understandable explanations (that even the college course lacked) while remaining engaging.

A couple of downsides:
1. The book assumes that you have a full-time, high speed internet connection, and relies on examples and validation services on the internet. Something that's somewhat annoying (but not insurmountable) readers restricted to dial-up.

2. This book is long. The meat of the subject matter is diluted by all of the content that's meant to streamline the learning process. This isn't necessarilly a bad thing unless you process information like a computer instead of a human. It does make the book inadequate as a reference though.

That said, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good base knowledge about web design.

Summary: Great Introductory!
Comment: This is one the most intuitive, natural and beginner's books I have ever read. I can't recommend it enough for a beginner. An advanced xhtml/css programmer would find little need for this book (but it still would be a fun read, believe it or not!). "Head First HTML with CSS and XHTML" is a goldmine for any beginner in the subject.
