Summary: Foul language warning for young readers
Comment: My 8-year-old son has long wanted to learn about this mysterious thing I do at work but I've really struggled to find a book written in an engaging, approachable style that didn't sacrifice good practices (semantic markup, standards, etc.) My son devoured it, whipping through 80 pages the first day. But as he was pointing out some things he'd discovered I encountered a few *unexpected* phrases. Upon reading the prose more closely than I had upon my initial content evaluation, I've so far discovered a "kick-a**", "what the h***", and "d***" just in the first chapter. It's a shame because it makes absoultely NO relevant contribution to the learning experience and it makes an otherwise excellent work unsuitable for an audience for which it would otherwise be well suited. I actually *appreciate* the book's irreverance for the norm - it adds to the character of the book and the aids retention, but the language was totally unnecessary and there was no warning given anywhere in the book's intro, title pages, endings -- nothing. Given the likelihood that the Head First style would appeal to younger audiences (if not 8-year-olds) it seems it would have been reasonable at least to have provided a warning (or better yet, to have avoided the ridiculous language choices in the first place.) Bad call guys, but an otherwise good product.

Summary: The best collection for learning!!
Comment: I haven't even bought this book. However, I did buy and study the following books:
Head First Design Patterns
Head First EJB (Brain-Friendly Study Guides; Enterprise JavaBeans)
Head First Servlets and JSP: Passing the Sun Certified Web Component Developer Exam (SCWCD)
I did find them worthful and do deserve every dollar you spend. I plan to buy
Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML (Head First)
Head Rush Ajax
These books are the best for self-learning have ever been published. On the other hand, You must NEVER think that you buy a reference book, nor a booklet to get acquainted with the topic. These books do go in-depth to discuss a lot of detail things that are not needed if you just want to get familiar with the topic!
If you decided to have a good knowledge in the field of one of these books topics, buy it directly. This is why I will buy those two books. The rest like Head First Java, 2nd Edition I don't buy just because I learned Java prior to seeing these great books, and I wish I studied Java from these books. It would have been a great deal

Summary: Excellent Women friendly book
Comment: This book uses positive images of women, which was so refreshing and engaging, I actually thought yeh I want to be like those people who know HTML! There are many very helpful varieties of teaching techniques throughout the book.

They almost trick you into learning!

Before I knew it I had my first website designed and ready to fly! Thank you HEAD FIRST! I will be looking at your other titles now!

Summary: Excellent book
Comment: I'm a graphics designer doing web design for years. Much of my HTML has been writen by someone else after I do the design. For years I have struggled with Dreamweaver producing useable sites withh questionable HTML... often relying on someone else to de-bug.

Why I have waited so long to learn the basics of HTML, XHTML and CCS is a mystery now that I have read this book. At first Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML seemed a bit too simplistic for my tastes. Boy, was I wrong. This book has an adictive way of presenting the basics and hooking you into learning more. I'm on page 400 after 2 days and have a hard time putting it down.

Now I can't wait to build my next site by myself in Dreamweaver and it will be compliant.

Summary: This Book is SWEET!!!!!!
Comment: first off, this book is entertaining and funny alone, without learning anything.

second, I have a degree in Computer Science (programming) and knew nothing about creating web pages, I read this book in a little over a day, and felt I gained a solid understanding for creating web pages with style(CSS).

third, this book is up to date. It's really a book about XHTML and CSS. Which, if your starting out, is the best thing to learn.

Fouth, this book made learning the XHTM and CSS language extremely easy, almost too easy. I bet anyone could read this book and think they are an expert. Im tempted to ask my parents to read it to see if they could make a family webpage for fun.

Thank you Freemans!!!!
