Summary: Great Reference!
Comment: As a web developer, I find myself carrying the 2nd ed of this book to and from home everyday--maybe I do need to get the newest edition to keep at work. In true O'Reilly form, it is a well organized REFERENCE--the "reference" section takes up nearly half of the book. Beginners will need some patience to fully appreciate it. Folks, as in previous reviews, who find the cover strange should take a second look, as this is the trademark "animal-cover" of O'Reilly books, which I have come to respect for being well-written guides and references 95% of the time.

Summary: Great cover design! Excellent book!
Comment: I love the O'Reilly covers! I think wildlife is beautiful. It's sad to hear comments from people about the "boring" cover. I would have expected educated, artistic people to be appreciative of the diversity of our planet's creatures. I'm really pleased that O'Reilly has included animals on their covers. The publisher subtly raises awareness about endangered animals on our earth without proselytizing. As for the content, this is a wonderful book on JavaScript.

Comment: "Don't judge a book by it's cover."

I have read some of the chapters and learned more in 5 minutes than I have in 5 books previously. It may not have a great cover, but it does have great content. Do yourself a favor and get it. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Not good for beginners, great for the experienced?
Comment: I think this book should have been titled "Javascript, the definitive reference book". I think the first part is "too dried". It explains the syntax. For one thing, it uses the word "variable" before it defines it in the next section. I thought it should be the other way around. Since this book doesn't title as "Java......for WWW", and can't say it doesn't do a good job in providing examples for applying. I saw one review complained about the cover, I would like to say about the paper quality. I would prefer a book with thicker paper so if I want to highlight something, it won't show through on the other side. Anyway, I am returning this book.

Summary: One of the best Javascript books around
Comment: Forget the Rhinoceros on the front, what counts is what's inside. This book is the place to start if you want to learn Javascript and you've done some programing before. It's clearly written, and a very good tutorial and excellent reference. It hasn't left my desk and will definitely not end up on the shelf any soon. I know the simple HTML language and learning javascript from this book has brought life to my personal web page. Get this book, it's all you'll need!
