Customer Rating: Summary: Can't put it down Comment: The authors are really skilled in terms of subject presentation and focusing on the core topics. The style of writing is really good, because its like having a conversation with a bunch of guys and gals with a cuppa :) in hand
Customer Rating: Summary: It's OK Comment: The subtitle of the book is "Passing the Sun certified Web Component Developer Exam" and it would be helpful for that. The real issue is that, like all exam prep books, this book doesn't help much with creating real world applications or go into tremendous depth. I would only recommend this book to those that want to study for the aforementioned exam, but not for those who want to really learn JSP and servlets.
Customer Rating: Summary: very useful Comment: OK, i'm not SCWD certified, nor am i SCJP certified, but can tell you, this is a GREAT book. I used (still use) it to learn more about Java/web apps-and it has been a wonderful foundation. In addition to covering the basics, they talk about the MVC design pattern and explain Struts.
The authors are particularly good at explaining complex things, and at making the book both interesting and funny.
Customer Rating: Summary: informative & nice to look at Comment: even if you dont find this book informative, its still worth buying just because of how hot the girl on the cover is. at least thats my opinion.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Job! Comment: Head First, as always: Good Job! Your books are readable and (sometimes, not always) funny :-)
This books will teach you how to build web-apps while applying the Model View Controller (MVC) design pattern.
Simply put:
Servelet = controller
App logic = model
JSP = view
If you are unfamiliar with servlets (or J2EE in general) this book will put you on the right train (and on the right track).
This book is designated for the beginners/intermediate level.
