Summary: Wealth of information
Comment: I always wanted to read a book about web design. I am a designer myself and I just happened to come across this title one day. I don't regret purchasing this book at all. Its an easy read and great pictures and also provides many nice links to see examples of what is talked about in the book.

I've actually been able to put some of these principles into practice and I can see my perspectives changing already. I recommend this book.

Summary: Great principle and elements of design resource
Comment: I'm also an digital artist and I have been able to apply knowledge learned from this book to other aspects of digital art ther then web design. At the beginning of each chapter, Jason Beaird covers important elements and principles of design. Towards the end of the chapters he shows how to apply what was just discussed to web design in a Application section. This is a good book for beginners and those who just need a brush up on the principles of design.

Summary: Perfect blend of theory and example
Comment: I've just about finished the book, but was here ordering another in this series because this one has answered a million question. Reading the book is painless. Heck, it's almost enjoyable. I didn't want to know code. All I wanted to achieve was a working understanding of website design so that I could communicate ideas effectively to a web designer. BUT if I were planning on getting my own website on its feet, I would still find this design book invaluable in guiding me through the decision process necessary for creating a cohesive, sharp, expressive web design. Now I'm off to get Site Point's book on 101 Photoshop tricks for websites. Yep. I'm jazzed.

Summary: A good design primer, but..a little light
Comment: First, the book does cover the fundamentals of layout, balance, texture, symmetry, fonts, imagery, which may be well suited to both the web and non-web designer. The book seems to try and condense topics covered in a pure layout book, especially,"Layout Workbook" by Cullen, with some css snippets thrown in here and there. In summary, it explains the basics of good layout, shows you a photo of a site online, then discusses how that site implements the topic being discussed.

I expected a bit more, for instance photoshop techniques are lightly touched on, but layout tools such as Fireworks aren't mentioned. The book is full color, about 1/2" thick, but for the price I expected a little more "meat." Lastly, it's not a book that is going to take the experienced designer to a higher level of creativity, but again, a good/fair primer for the beginning web designer.

Summary: Make Your Web Site Stand Out From The Rest
Comment: 'The Principles of Beautiful Web Design' by Jason Beaird is a short (~170 pages) book about an important topic: designing better content for the web. Back in the days when web sites were first developed, you only cared about seeing a few hyperlinks and maybe a few pictures. Design didn't matter because the web was new, it was exciting, and just to be able to connect was sometimes a joy in itself. With Web 2.0 those times have changed. Users not only expect to be able to always get to the content they are interested in, they want the look to be logical and well presented. They want sites and content to make sense, and they want it to be easy on the eyes and on the brain. With this book you will learn the skills necessary for anyone that creates content for the web on how to produce an end result that not only provides the information you want to to the user, but in a way that makes sense.

5 chapters might not seem like a lot, but it's perfect for this book. Unlike a reference manual, this is more of a case study book and the size it just like that last bowl of porridge for Goldilocks: Just Right

With a web design book I would expect the layout to be designed just as well with plenty of color and a nice stock paper. As sitepoint always delivers, I got just what I expected. Not only a book that is fun and interesting to learn and read from, but the above and beyond quality that ia always sitepoint's forte.

If you create web sites or edit existing ones, you owe it to yourself to pick up this book and become a better and designer for the Web 2.0 world.

***** HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION
